A few months ago I begrudgingly agreed to vacation in Puerto Rico with my family (I had been vying to use our JetBlue points for Peru but lost that battle). My interpretation of the island was of an overly commercialized popular American vacation spot- I was half right. Popular American vacation spot? Yes. Overly commercialized? Note quite. Yes, you will find U.S. comforts like Walmart, McDonalds, and Subway but the streets of Old San Juan are still lined with cobble stones and fortresses dating back to the 1500's taking you back in time. Here's a taste of my visit...
We stayed at El Conquistador in the town of Fajardo about an hour east of San Juan. The above view was from the top of an elevator bringing guests to the bottom of the hotel's cliffs where they could find more resturaunts, a water park, hotel rooms, and the ferry shuttling guest to Palomino island. *Note* if you're not ok with heights, maybe look elsewhere for a hotel.
Not a bad way to start your day, am I right?
The view just outside the door of our "casita".
Go figure- Melanie got stuck with the slow horse...
Because if you're not drinking a fruity drink on the beach at 3:00, you're not really on vacation.
